It all started with a single cashew.
You know the moment whenyou’re feeling empowered, ready to start your wellness journey, and suddenly you’re logging snacks like you’re reporting to a digital food overlord. You pause, hovering over “1.2 servings of raw unsalted cashews (28g)”, wondering, Does this count if I licked the salt off first?
That’s when you realize: you’ve crossed into the world of MyFitnessPal.
Once the darling of calorie-counting apps, MyFitnessPal has gone from revolutionary to… well, a little bloated. But is it still a useful tool in the Wellness, Wealth & Beauty™ lifestyle or is it time to swipe left on this longtime digital companion?
Let’s unpack the macros and the mess.
Part 1: The Good, the Glitchy, and the Glaring Paywalls
There’s a reason MyFitnessPal has over 200 million users worldwide. It’s one of the OG wellness apps—equal parts journal, accountability partner, and slightly judgy friend who reminds you you’ve had zero vegetables today. (Okay Karen, we get it.)
✅ The Wins:
A vast database of foods, including everything from homemade lentil soup to that one gas station egg roll you probably shouldn’t have eaten.
Barcode scanning is a dream. Open the app, zap your protein bar, and boom—nutritional info.
It syncs beautifully with wearables (Fitbit, Apple Watch, Garmin), so your steps, workouts, and water intake can all play nice.
But…
🚫 The Meh:
Premium is pushy. You used to get macronutrient breakdowns and food insights for free. Now? Pay up or get vague bar graphs that feel like nutrition gaslighting.
The interface? Still a little 2015. Sure, it’s functional—but not in a “wow, I feel motivated just opening it” kind of way.
You’ll log your kale, but you might rage-quit halfway through logging your sushi roll.
Part 2: Is It Still Relevant in the WW&B Era?
Here at Wellness, Wealth & Beauty™, we don’t just track steps—we track alignment. Does this app support you, or are you serving it?
🧠 Wellness: MyFitnessPal can promote mindfulness, especially for emotional eating and nutrient awareness. But over-tracking can lead to obsessive behavior. (We’ve seen it. One user counted the calories in kombucha floaties.)
💰 Wealth: The free version gives value, but it’s getting skimpier each year. Is $19.99/month for Premium worth it? Maybe if you’re training for a physique competition. But for the average WW&B queen just trying to feel good and glow, probably not.
💄 Beauty: Tracking can lead to better skin (hello hydration reminder!) and hormonal balance if you’re logging mood and cycle-related food effects. But the app itself? Let’s just say it’s not exactly giving aesthetic joy. (Can we get some pastel tones or mood-based dashboards, please?)

Part 3: Real Users, Real Talk
> “I used MyFitnessPal to recover from binge eating and track patterns. It helped me see the emotional triggers—not just the calories.”
— Nicole W., holistic health coach
> “I loved it until they locked most of the nutrient info behind a paywall. Now it’s just frustrating.” — Tina R., personal trainer & mom of three
> “Logging every bite helped me realize I wasn’t eating enough. But after a while, I had to stop. It became more pressure than help.” — Marcus D., community member
Fit Tool or Faded Fad?
MyFitnessPal is still a solid entry in your wellness toolbox, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution anymore. If you’re seeking food awareness, pattern-tracking, and basic structure, the free version can still serve you. But if you want emotional integration, aesthetic delight, and deep personalization? You might want to pair it with other tools, or better yet, your own inner wisdom.
Because the truth is: no app can replace intuition. The real magic happens when you learn to ask:
“What does my body need today—not just what will the tracker approve of?”
So go ahead, track your next snackm or don’t. Just remember:
Wellness isn’t earned through points. It’s built through presence.
(And yes, that includes licking the salt off the cashew. We won’t tell.)
